Hire a Contractor You Can Trust

This is a true story, told to us by a friend who needed a repair on a gutter.

She thought the repair was so minor that she didn’t really need a roofing company. So, she hired a local handyman who looked at it and said he’d do it right away for $75 cash. My friend said ok, paid him and went to work. You guessed it. When she returned, the gutter was still hanging half off, with no sign of the handyman. So she called him, and he said his ladder was too short and he’d come back tomorrow. Days went by, he stopped answering his phone, and my friend never saw him again. Or the $75.

Lessons learned
1. It wasn’t less expensive
2. It wasn’t faster
3. Working with a trusted contractor is a much better idea

Why hire a licensed, insured contractor?

Small exterior repairs need to be assessed by someone who will recognize whether it is just a small repair or if it is a symptom of a larger problem.

First, to you on the ground, a couple of loose roofing shingles may look like a small repair. On the other hand,  to an expert on your roof, it could indicate a spot where water damage has weakened the roof deck. Or, a loose piece of siding might look like it just needs reinstalling.  But an experienced siding installer will know if those loose panels point to a larger problem or widespread improper installation.

Are you concerned the contractor may “see something” that isn’t really there?

If you choose a contractor whose reputation is based on integrity and fairness – like Ferris Home Improvements’ reputation is – you don’t have to worry. If we see something, we say something, and we SHOW somethi

ng – a photo of the issue for you to see for yourself. And ultimately the decision of what to do is yours, alone. No high-pressure upselling from us.

In summary, don’t make a costly mistake by hiring a lesser-qualified person for your home repairs, or the even more costly mistake of ignoring problems until they become large repairs.

Choose a company with a long history of honesty and professionalism that you can trust. And by that, we mean Ferris Home Improvements.

And, don’t forget what Benjamin Franklin said:

“For want of a nail, the shoe was lost. For want of a shoe, the horse was lost. For want of a horse, the rider was lost. For want of a rider, the battle was lost.
