3. Allowing work to begin without proof of state license and insurance.
4. Telling potential customers that their company is affiliated with a well-known and established, credible local company.  Call that company to confirm the validity of this claim before blindly agreeing to start work.
5. Believing only the reviews/references that the contractor hands to you.  Be sure to do your own research online and with the local Better Business Bureau as well.
