Is it time for a full roof replacement for your home?
A new roof is a major investment that should not be taken lightly. Do your homework and get several estimates from qualified roofing contractors in your Delaware community. When replacing your home’s roof, be sure to do some extensive research and consider taking the opportunity to make some other wise home improvement choices that could boost your home’s energy efficiency and curb appeal.
Don’t just take the cheapest bid; it might cost you more money in the long run. Be sure the estimates are comparable in the quality of material. With all the consumer review sites available nowadays, it would be prudent to check out the reputation of the roofing contractors you are considering. You’ll want a contractor that has ties to the community and that is trustworthy.
That being said, here are some suggestions to consider when replacing your home’s roof.
4 COMMON MISTAKES TO AVOID WHEN BUYING A ROOF:
1) No craftsmanship warranty for a brand new roof. RED FLAG! A new roof when installed properly should perform well under normal circumstances for decades. If your roofer isn’t confident in his/her work or his/her business longevity, then you should be wary of the roof.
2) No roof ventilation solutions for your new roof. Whether you go green with a roof vent or you opt for an attic fan, it is important to have some way to keep hot air moving up and out of your attic. If not, stagnant hot air in your attic next to cold A/C air in your home will produce moisture, which can grow mold and weaken wood in your roof’s structure.
3) Not taking advantage of opportunity to improve your attic insulation or storage. When you install all new plywood on your roof, or are replacing the vast majority of it, it is much more cost-efficient to bundle services like insulation or additional plywood flooring in your attic when the large boards or insulation can be loaded through the open roof.
4) No contrast between your roof’s shingle color and your siding/predominant material of your home’s exterior. Take advantage of multi-colored shingles that can add depth, dimension and “pop” to your home’s color scheme. If you have a multi-colored material on the majority of your home, like brick or stone siding, be sure not to match it too closely and miss the opportunity to highlight your home’s various features.
